2013 Oral History Project
For its first-ever Oral History Project, the Professional Development Programme at the Nazarbayev University Graduate School of Education has assembled professional teachers and trainers from across Kazakhstan to contribute to the growing body of knowledge about the history of the education system in Kazakhstan. Through the project, participating teachers and trainers collect valuable stories about schooling from people from all parts of Kazakhstan. These stories not only contribute to the interviewees' growing knowledge of schooling in Kazakhstan, but also enable these teachers and trainers to consider the interviewees' broader, historical views of education when making choices in their practical work in education.

From the PDP CandidatesThis Oral History Project is important in the way it gives the opportunity to feel a person’s experience and feelings. In our case, we have a chance to learn more about the educational systems and standards of the past century from people who have experienced it on their own. This interview with the director of Nazarbayev Museum, which is situated in Kaskelen - the place where Nursultan Nazarbayev was born, shows different aspects of the life of our national leader. To know more about the school years and study experience of the most significant person of our state may be very interesting and edifying for younger generations. We, as the students of Nazarbayev University and students focusing on the education system of Kazakhstan, have been inspired by his stories.
